Miley Cyrus: “I’m not trying to be slutty.”

In the midst of Mileygate (also known as the controversial photos that Perez Hilton posted where it looked like Miley Cyrus wasn’t wearing underwear “ but she was), the teen star has come out and declared herself non-slutty, but also making it quite clear that nobody can or will tell her what to wear or sing about.  (But just for the record, a 17-year-old is still a minor though, right?)

Going on to say that she’s trying to make a point with [her] record and look consistent in the way [her] record sounds and that way that [she] dresses, young Cyrus continued her slightly questionable declarations:

I’m not trying to be ˜slutty,’ said Cyrus in a recent interview. I’m not trying to be like, go to the club and get a bunch of guys … What I’m trying to do is to make a point with my record and look consistent, in the way my record sounds and the way I dress.

I’m really comfortable with my body, I work really hard to be fit and to know that I can wear whatever makes me most comfortable.  I feel more comfortable dressing with a little less, which is just how I’ve always been.

Sure, Miley’s free to dress and act however she likes “ that’s the beauty of free will.  But despite her maturity or what she may be ready for, to define herself by being scantily clad or oozing sex appeal is doing herself a disservice.  Here’s hoping she knows she knows she’s worth more than a pair of short-shorts.

  1. It would be fine if her target audience wasn’t 11 year old and younger girls. These young girls look up to Miley as a role model and micmick her behaviour and clothing–not a great influence. She needs to break from that audience. My young girls won’t be buying into the Hanna Montana empire anymore.
  2. Oh honey, “no one can or will tell you what to do”? If all the parents of 16 year & younger were to stop buying your CD’s & watch your movies you would watch your tongue..The outfits were too riske but the hands in her crotch during the London concert. Toooooo much!
I will no longer let my six & eight yr. old grandaughters watch her on my T.V..I have in the past bought Hanna Montana outfits. NO MORE!
    My house, my rules.
